League Play

Jackson-Reed High School participates in several leagues so that we can meet the competitive demands of our student-athletes and teams.

Jackson-Reed High School belongs to DCIAA (District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association). The District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA) is the public high school athletic league in Washington, D.C. The league was founded in 1958. The original high school conference for D.C. schools was the Inter-High School Athletic Association, formed around 1896. That organization was segregated, and black schools in the District formed their own athletic association. The Inter-High League was renamed the DCIAA in 1989 to bring the District of Columbia in line with other states with interscholastic athletic programs.

The DCIAA sponsors championships in basketball, baseball, bowling, cross country, football, flag football, lacrosse (middle school only), soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and field, and wrestling (middle school only).

The DCIAA is made up of all DCPS high schools including Anacostia, Ballou, Benjamin Banneker, Bell Multicultural, Ron Brown, Cardozo, Coolidge, Dunbar, Eastern, H.D. Woodson, Luke C. Moore, McKinley Tech, Phelps, School Without Walls, Theodore Roosevelt, and Jackson-Reed High School.

Wilson receives funding from DCIAA for these teams only. At Jackson-Reed, the following teams participate in this league. For more information about the DCIAA, visit their website at www.thedciaa.com.

The District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) was founded in 2012. The DCSAA oversees post-season high school sporting contests in Washington, DC. DCSAA is made up of public schools from the DCIAA, DC private schools, and DC charter schools. The DCSAA provides a medium for which the best schools, regardless of type, can compete under unified rules. That way, there can be a true city (state) champion, rather than a public-school champion and private school champions.

The DCSAA sponsors championships in football, basketball, soccer, cross country, cheerleading, baseball, indoor track, outdoor track, softball, volleyball and ultimate frisbee.

Jackson-Reed Ice Hockey participates in the MSHL. The Maryland Student Hockey League is an association of over 50 school-based teams located in Maryland and the District of Columbia. It is a member of the Potomac Valley Amateur Hockey Association which is the local governing body of USA Hockey. The sanctioned varsity teams are divided into sections used by every sport under MSHL. The League sponsors Varsity and Junior Varsity competition of all skill levels and sexes. While not affiliated with the Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association, the MSHL follows many of the MPSSAA's rules and regulations as possible, given the constraints imposed by the various schools and school systems. The sanctioned teams compete from the beginning of November until the end of February with the maximum number of games.
